Kermit A. Rogers, 76, of Newton, West Virginia, passed away Monday, July 19, 2010 in CAMC - General Hospital, Charleston, after an extended illness.
He was born February 23, 1934, at Newton, a son of the late Rev. Ernest F. and Mabel Tawney Rogers. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Keith Rogers; and a sister, Barbara "Bobbie" Beistle.
Kermit was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean War. He was an avid sportsman, who loved to raise and train Treeing Walker hounds. He had been a long time member of the Clay County Coon Hunter's Association and a member of the National Redbone Association.
Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Betty Bird Rogers; daughters, Kathleen A. Holcomb of Newton, Cheryl L. Holcomb of Indore and Dawn A. Wilkinson of Unionville, MO; nine grandchildren and nine great grandchildren; sisters, Adele M. Johnson of Santa Maria, CA, Delores Dennis of Ft. Wayne, IN, Dorma K. Bird of Ossian, IN, Charlotte A. Dilno of Albuquerque, NM and Pat Conley of Newton; brothers, Carroll A. Rogers of The Villages, FL and Andrew J. Rogers of Newton.
A funeral service will be held Friday, July 23 at 2:00 p.m. in the John H. Taylor Funeral Home, Spencer, with Pastor Roy Huffman officiating. Burial will be in the Tawney Cemetery, Newton.
