Jerry Bruce Norman, 71, of Norton, Ohio and Shock, West Virginia, went to be with the
Lord on July 11, 2010 after a long battle with lung cancer.
He was born in Shock, WV on April 5, 1939, a son of Eck and Edna Lambert
Norman.
Most of his younger years were spent on the Norman family farm which
he loved. Following his graduation from Normantown High School, he served
his country in the US Marine Corps for 3 years. He ran his own company
for many years. His attention to detail and integrity made his business
successful. He donated an untold amount of hours helping those who needed a
hand.
After his retirement from his construction company in Ohio, he spent
much of his time on the farm which came to him upon the death of his
parents. He wanted the farm preserved and kept for the family's enjoyment so
that all could share in a little of his happiness. He had an intense love of
nature and all of God's creatures. He was especially fond of his chickens,
ducks, and other fowl and he spent many happy hours "down by the chicken
coop." As some have described him, he was a "gentle giant", very kind and
loving, especially to all of the kids. His greatest desire was to move back
to the West Virginia hills and now he has.
He was a member of the Church of Christ and wanted to see it grow. He
generously donated the beautiful lot on which the Steer Creek building now
stands.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Betty
Boatright Norman and sisters Nina Norman and Glenna Miller.
He is survived by his son, Bruce Anthony (Shelly) Norman; grandchildren,
Mindy, Ryan, Brody and Olivia. Also surviving are his companion and
caretaker, Bonnie Brenner; brothers, Brooks (Carolyn) Norman of Aurora Ohio
and Dale (Sheila) Norman of Shock; sisters, Lela (Bern) Wilson of Malta Ohio, Kate (George) Miller and Patty (Gene) Miller of Shock; and many
nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Thursday, July 15 at the
Steer Creek Church of Christ at Stumptown, WV. Gene H. Miller will
officiate. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until time of services at the church Thursday. Interment will be in Collins Community Cemetery.
Anyone who wishes may give a memorial donation to the Steer Creek Church of
Christ, in lieu of sending flowers may do so.
A memorial service, to honor Jerry, will be held in Ohio on Saturday, July 17 from 1-3 p.m. at the residence of Bonnie Brenner, 4555 Roop Ave., Norton, Ohio.
