Okey M. Gibson, 80, of Kent, Ohio, died Tuesday, July
6, 2010 at Hennis Care Center Dover, Ohio.
He was
born January 30, 1930 in Joker, West Virginia, to Lora and
Ada Kerby Gibson.
Sergeant Okey served in the
U. S. Army in Korea, where he received the
Korean Service Medal with three bronze stars,
Combat Infantryman's Badge, and United Nations
Service Medal. He was a carpenter with the
Reeves Lumber Company in Akron, Ohio, for over fifty
years.
He is survived by sons, Michael (Cheryl)
Gibson of Dover and Thomas P. (Jill) Gibson of
Akron; daughters, Deborah S. Sanford of
Brimfield OH, Donna L. Petrow of North Royalton OH;
six grandchildren, five step grandchildren, and
six step great grandchildren; brothers, Leon
(Shirley) Gibson of Raeford NC, and Ed
(Dorothy) Gibson of Newcomerstown OH; sisters,
Betty Williams of Cleveland OH Estelle Buckus of
Rootstown OH and Doris (Larry) Asbury of West
Lafayette OH.
He was preceded in death by his wife,
of forty six years, Salona Louthen Gibson; brothers,
Eugene Gibson, Vernon Gibson, Todd Gibson, Don
Gibson, and sister, Edra Rogers.
Calling hours
will be held 6-8 p.m. Sunday, July 11 at Bissler &
Sons Funeral Home in Kent, Ohio. Funeral services will
be held 12-noon Monday, July 12 at the funeral
Home. with Pastor Dan Alexoff officiating.
Burial will be in Standing Rock Cemetery.
