George Robert Mowry, 91, of Kenna, West Virginia, died Tuesday, July 6, 2010 in Ravenswood Village, Ravenswood, after an extended illness.
He was born March 8, 1919, at Wall, Pennsylvania, the son of the late George Young and Clio Valentine Harding Mowry. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Elsie Virginia "Jean" Hardy Mowry; and one stepson, James Engle.
Mr. Mowry was a retired agricultural engineer for the USDA. He was a graduate of Edgewood High School Class of 1937, of Penn State University with a B.S. in Agricultural Engineering and Kansas State University with an M.S. in Agricultural Engineering. He was an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II, a member of the Ravenswood Church of God and the Ripley Senior Citizens.
Survivors include a son, Robert Young Mowry of Kenna; four grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held Thursday, July 15 from 6-7 p.m. in the Ravenswood Church of God with Pastor Roger Cummings officiating. Friends may call Thursday from 5:30-6:00 p.m. at the church.
Burial, with military graveside rites, will be in the West Virginia National Cemetery, Grafton, at 1:00 p.m. Friday, July 16.
