Bernard Pius Bell is Calhoun's only soldier to be awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor, one of few in West Virginia.
Bell grew up at Henrietta, a short distance from Grantsville along State Route 5.
The Grantsville bridge has been named in his honor and a plaque was mounted with his history at the Army Reserve Center at Big Bend.
