The long and sometimes difficult E-911 addressing and mapping project has been completed for the county, with official Gary Buchanan presenting a final check for $32,329 from the State of WV fund for the project.
The Calhoun Commission heard from Statewide Mapping and Addressing Board chairperson James Gianato, who commended E-911 coordinator Gary Buchanan for he and his staff's "outstanding work and dedication to the project."
Gianato said the completed Calhoun project is now helping support efforts by other counties to meet uniform standards.
Buchanan displayed copies of maps and addressing books to Calhoun's commissioners this week. He is currently erecting road signs on newly created and unmarked side roads.
OES, E-911 and LEPC Director Kathy Wood gave an update on pending communication and tower improvements.
Wood said the county commissioners will adopt an official policy regarding the use of Calhoun's two wrecker services, as required by state code.
County Clerk Richard Kirby said, following state code, the Calhoun prosecutor's position will be on the fall ballot.
The commission is carefully reviewing money requests from several groups, maintaining a tight watch on county expenditures.
Commissioner Chip Westfall said Community Resources, Inc. is making progress, and that new programs to help Calhoun homeowners is in the mill.
Sheriff Allen Parsons requested approval to return Carl Ballengee to a Chief Deputy position.
County Clerk Richard Kirby announced the creation of a Chief Deputy position in his office, appointing Amanda Oldham. A part-time position for Samantha Fulks for the sheriff's office was approved, with the sheriff using money from his Concealed Weapons Fund.
The commission approved a new carrier for county insurance, a carrier created for the purpose of saving money and keeping benefits for WV counties.
The commission appointed Lisa Cooper to the Solid Waste Authority, Starling Bartlett to the Calhoun Park Board, Sherlene Conley to the Calhoun Library Board.
They removed Linda Fivecoat, Shelia Burch and Tom Fluharty from the Calhoun Park Board.
The commission continued to request a written opinion regarding a delinquent land issue brought to the commission by Richard Morris.
The commission said they would review a request from the West Central Beekeeping Assn. for funding, presented by Dale Cunningham.
