Rev. Carlos Nutter filled his regular appointment at the Burning Springs M. E. Church.
Grace Keaffaber who was injured while at work at Mineral Wells some time back is now home but she has to go to the hospital each day for antibiotics.
Japanese beetles are back again feasting on their favorite things which include fruit and plants that folks do not want eaten. Raspberries are ripening and it looks like there will be a bumper crop of blackberries & elderberries.
Haymaking weather has returned to the area and quite a bit of hay has been harvested. At least one Burning Springs resident got overheated in the hay harvest Saturday.
W. Harrison Schenerlein IV attended the Folk Festival at Glenville and visited with his Uncle George & Aunt Cynthia. He also, along with Charles Russell, visited Euell Russell at Miletree in Spencer. Euell reported catching a 5 lb fish on Friday and that he had one on his pole that snapped his line.
The census fiasco continues to be a topic of national discussion. Some local folks who have yet to get a form were talking with an official in Elizabeth and that individual reported not being counted either. One of the "in" jokes in Elizabeth are the requests by the census folks for the location of "Parkersburg Road" in Wirt County. Perhaps it is the mystery section where all the Mexicans live. In Port Chester, New York the lily livered decided that the each Mexican should get six (6) votes in the election, as opposed to just one for the white crackers, just to make it fair.
Those who go to Parkersburg often see the panhandlers who have signs that say, "Will work for food" but, of course decline jobs. One official in that section decided to see just how much these folks were collecting. It was learned that they average $80/hour which is, of course, more than what those who work in the area make (and then some - more than many make/day). One group had been using a wheelchair as a prop and they noticed that at "shift change" the "invalid" in the chair got up and another took his place.
There has been quite a bit of helicopter traffic in the area.
The bridge crew has been working repairing the Little Kanawha River bridge at Creston. It was noted that while the steel near the abutments was being replaced the steel in the middle of the span was also less than choice. The bridge repairmen reported that when not working on bridges they are cutting trees in Jackson County, apparently so that the sun can get in and dry up the mudholes. That was the philosophy back when Wally Barron was governor (the 10% man).
Core drillings are being made for a new bridge at Annamoriah. It was reported that the bridge there needs to be replaced. There are no postings on the existing span.
It was reported that a local health professional went to Alaska recently to harvest a coastal type grizzly.
Connie, Jackie Sue, Kylee and Jerry spent some time at Virginia Beach and reported that the weather there was hot.
The Gulf of Mexico disaster continues to get worse and the lack of leadership each day becomes more glaring. Seems the Dutch skimmers couldn't be called in because the Jones Act would have to be waived and the unions said "no". Gov. Jindal of Louisiana had some barges sucking up oil and the coast guard shut them down for 24 hours. When asked why they said they had to check to see if there were fire extinguishers and life jackets on board and they had to check to see where the barges were made. Do you reckon the Louisiana governor called in barges from Bolivia, Montana & Tibet? Now the big eared one has shook down BP for $20 billion and already various politicos are talking about how they will spend the loot (& they didn't mention helping those impacted in the Gulf of Mexico either).
With American rigs shut down the Chinese, Mexicans, Russians, Viet Namese, etc can drill with abandon and suck up America's oil. Of course the big winner is Brazil. The Won gave them $2 billion for offshore drilling and George Soros, who funds the Center for American Progress (who apparently calls the white house shots), is the big investor in the Brazilian government oil company. How handy.
EQT, formerly known as Equitable Gas, has indicated that they plan to drill a Beekmantown well is southern Jackson County. Some years back Exxon, the Rockefeller family flagship company, drilled a test well nearby that was "supposed to have been dry, just like the Mt. Zion well" but it produced from the Beekmantown for some time until it was plugged because of brine production from another zone that was not cemented off.
Allegheny Power announced that there would be no electric in the Creston area on Thursday, June 24 after 9 A. M. for three hours or so.
As part of the "big plan" it was reported that government checks, like social security and SSI checks are to be "no more" and that one will have to have either bank accounts or "debit cards".
The folks at the federal government reported that, contrary to what had been said earlier, 51% of private health care plans will not comply with "Obamacare" and the covered employees will have to 'participate' in the government "option".
Hillary Clinton who acts like she is running for high office announced in South America that the Big Eared One was going to sue Arizona over the law dealing with illegal aliens in that state.
The price of local Pennsylvania grade crude fell to $71/bbl. Gasolene prices locally range from $2.80 to S2.63/gallon.
