While there's a variety of activities ongoing
through Saturday at the 61st annual "Folk Festival"
everything revolves around music and friends.
Return for a few years and it becomes a reunion
and homecoming.
Stay late, and you'll see square-dancing in the
middle of town. Travel out of the lights onto the
backstreets and parking lots and you'll find
musicians jamming...just follow your ears.
Some of the best music licks in the state...will
resonate from fiddle, banjo and mandolin riffs.
For those who want to beat the heat and humidity
Glenville State College hosts under and over 50
banjo and fiddle contests Friday and Saturday at
2 p.m. at the Fine Arts Center.
In addition, formal music programs are held
each evening at the Fine Arts Center beginning
at 7 p.m.
The artists featured comprise a list that includes
the best the 'Folk Festival' has to offer.
Friday night's invited guests include: Lester McCumbers,
Alan Freeman, Tracy Schwarz and Ginny Hawker,
Jesse Milnes, and Reed Island Rounders.
Saturday night's fare is expected to feature: Frank
George, Bonnie Collins, The Samples Brothers, David
Bing, Ron and Rory Mullennex, Scott Prouty, David
O'Dell, and the Wine Family Singers.
Admission to the Glenville State College events
are free; donations are accepted.
