Louise Douglas Butler McDonald, 96 , of Charleston, WV, formerly of Grantsville, WV, died April
3, 2002. She was born in Oak Grove, Kentucky on November 16, 1905. She was the daughter
of the late John M. and Mary B. Steger Butler. She attended public schools in Kentucky and
graduated from North Texas State Normal College (now the University of North Texas) with a
degree in education.
She taught at Calhoun High School for many years, was a member of Knotts Memorial United
Methodist Church, and was active in civic and community affairs in Calhoun from 1931-1996.
She was a life member of Grantsville Chapter #73 of the Order of Eastern Star, a former
member of the regional board of the state Library Commission, and a member of the now
defunct Women's Civic Club of the General Federation of Women's Clubs.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Dewitt C. McDonald and is survived by their
daughter, Nancy L. and her husband William Street of Charleston, WV. She was also preceded
in death by her husband, Logan McDonald and is survived by their son, Robert F. of New York,
NY. Their sons James L. and John B. died in 1964 and 1973, respectively. She is survived by
grandchildren, Martha Spiker of Ripley, WV, Anne Harth of Charleston, John Street of
Charleston and James McDonald of Elizabethtown, Kentucky, and five great grandchildren.
Stump Funeral Home of Grantsville is in charge of arrangements. The service will be at Knotts
Memorial Church at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 6, 2002. The family will receive visitors from 12 noon
until 2 p.m. at the church. In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to Knotts Memorial
UMC, Drawer 617, Grantsville, WV 26147 or Kanawha Hospice Care Inc. 1143 Dunbar Ave.
Dunbar, WV 25064.
