Charleston Area Medical Center says a Calhoun man remains in critical condition following a tragic accident on Nicut Road over three weeks ago, but a family member said Derek Westfall, about 27, is "making slow improvement."
Westfall suffered head trauma and other injuries when his car was cut in two after striking steel I-beams.
Westfall was transfered to St. Francis Hospital yesterday, recovering from a lung infection.
Family members says he recognizes family members and is attempting to communicate.
Westfall, who is married, is the son of Richard Westfall, a supervisor at Calhoun's DHHR office, and his mother, Betty, is a teacher at Calhoun Middle-High School.
