Rev. Carlos Nutter filled his regular appointment at the Burning Springs M. E. Church & served Holy Communion.
Hank & Barbara Roten from Wichita Falls Texas were visiting area relatives and friends as well as going back to the old family properties & graveyards. She is the last member of Dollie K. Chipps' family. Dollie was a daughter of Jonathan dePue Hopkins and Melissa Headley Hopkins who lived up Island Run. They had returned to the area for her 55th high school class reunion.
Donald Hursell & boys were spending time at their family place on Beaver Dam. They were also calling on Denver McFarland who, as Don said, "Looked pretty rough."
A number of area residents attended and participated in Wood Festival events.
Some local folks participated in the Relay for Life in Elizabeth.
The Wirt road crew did some Layton Box work on the Richardsonville road and then did some patching with the box on W. Va. 5. It was reported that the funds allotted by the Big Boss ran out so there will be no more such work in the county. Apparently the big flat screens in the mansion need updating.
Charles Russell had Sunday dinner with Euell Russell. P. E. Graham and D. C. Ferrell have been working on the Russell residence so Euell can come home. Work came to a screeching halt the other day when a nest of bumblebees hidden in the wall strongly indicated their lack of approval for the upgrades & modifications.
Haymaking has come to a halt with almost daily rain being the norm.
Folks who travel W. Va. 5 between Creston & Burning Springs were treated to an unusual spectacle when a bulldozer got stuck in a steep, deep ditch on the Russell Hupp property. Most wondered how one could get a 'dozer in such a predicament? On Friday a big track hoe was called in to extricate the hapless 'dozer which was said to belong to Bill Shock.
Connie Boggs wanted it reported that Alvin Engelke was out way too late Friday evening (actually Saturday morning) despite the fact that he had a good excuse & justification.
Some folks may remember that there was a lot of talk about how bad the "swine flu" was going to be and the Moslems in Egypt used the scare to kill all the hogs that the native Christians in that nation had. Of course their main food source was pork but "Death to the infidels" would likely include starvation.
Well now it seems that the folks in the WHO (World Health Organization) that were calling for death & destruction if there wasn't massive inoculation were actually associated with the firms that were making the vaccine. WHO is part of the UN the outfit that is involved in global governance that goes with "fundamental change".
The do gooders and 'wise ones' in the federal government have now come out with new rules on "salt consumption" since it is big brother's business to know, to the calorie, how much and what every 'free' American citizen eats. The experts have determined that we eat "too much salt" and they intend to fix that. Banned items in the future (if folks allow such to happen) would include salt fish, smoked fish, bacon, ham, salt pork, corned beef, pickled beans, pickled corn, etc. Some have the audacity to suggest that the federal deficit could be easily reduced by shutting down the agencies that come up with such rubbish and laying off all their overpaid employees. Then they could learn about real work and jobs where one sweats and must replace lost salt.
The troubles with the ships trying to smuggle arms to the enemies of Israel in Gaza have brought out the anti-Semites in full force. Helen Thomas the democrat fund raiser and long time White House correspondent said, "Jews should get the hell out of Palestine and go back to Poland & Germany." and the "peace activists" on the boats shouted "go back to Auschwitz and remember 9/11". The big-eared one has made nice with many who are hostile to God's chosen people and apparently he hasn't read or doesn't believe what is written in the Book.
The fiasco in the Gulf continues. One thing for sure is that the price of seafood will go up, drastically. Then, to top matters off Enron got back in the news when an Enron well (EOG Resources) overwhelmed the control facilities for about 16 hours. Seems Enron was drilling a horizontal Marcellus in Clearfield County Pennsylvania and hit a very high-pressure area. As a result gas and brine shot in the air and the area had to be evacuated although the location was said to be "remote". Enron's main lawyer (& Bill & Hill's Treasury Secretary) Robert Rubin was off to the Bilderberger meeting in Spain. After supervising the collapse of his New York bank, Rubin is now head of the Council on Foreign Relations.
Royal Dutch Shell purchased the assets of East Resources for $4.6 billion. Locally, East owned the remnants of Rockefeller's South Penn Oil Company, later known as Pennzoil. The head honchos of Royal Dutch Shell, along with the wheels at Norway's government oil company (the one that Chesapeake sold the Marcellus rights to) also attended the secretive Bilderburger meeting as did several high level operatives in the Big Eared One's administration. Last year he & her Thighness both attended. Shell representatives have been in the area looking at facilities.
The price of local Pennsylvania grade crude oil fell $3.25/bbl to $63.75/bbl.
