After her mother died in 1905, Miss Anna Jarvis campaigned for a national
day to honor all mothers. On may 10, 1908, a Mother's Day service was
held at a church in Grafton, West Virginia, where Anna's mother was
taught. Thanks to Anna's further efforts, the idea caught on; in 1914,
Mother's Day was declared an annual national holiday on the second Sunday
in May.
Ben, Heather and the girls arrived here Saturday afternoon unexpectedly. What a wonderful surprise. They brought me a hanging basket of flowers for
Mother's Day. Tawni, her friend Jerry and Tyler also spent that night with
us. We had our own little family reunion. My neighbors little girl Sara
came up from Chloe to meet Ruby and Lea. Those little girls had a ball
with the kittens. They went up stairs and got themselves a cat each and
brought them downstairs, it was better than having toys. Lea is one to
wonder off and we were looking for her. She was on the stairs on her
behind holding a kitten by the neck. It was funny but Lea was rough on
the poor thing. Twice we took them back upstairs and even after, we found
Lea up there with them squeezing the little black one. Heather was really
upset worrying that Lea was going to kill it. Tawni, Heather and I wished
each other a happy Mother's Day, we had a nice dinner everyone went home
and the kitten's
are all fine.
I received an email from Rita Kennedy vice-president of the Upper West
Fork Park, giving us some info on some special meetings. May 10th,
regular park meeting and all are welcome, then on Thursday, May 13th a food
handlers class, registration is a 4:30 p.m. and class is at 5 to 6 p.m. Cost is $5.00 for the card, which lasts 4 to 5 years. May 17 at 6:30 p.m. a special
work meeting for all that would like to come and help out at the May Bluegrass Fest on May, 27th, 28th, 29th. The park is in desperate need of more help, this is everyones community too. Cakes and donations of baked items are needed to sell
at the festival. Also more flea market tables are available for $5.00. These meetings are all open to the public.
Heather and I have been planning a yard sale for a few months. She has
lots of children's clothes, toys and equipment and I just need to get rid
of stuff. So it has been set for the 17th of May on my birthday. I'm
thinking about getting a table for the festival. Rita Kennedy just gave
me all kinds of ideas.
Blaine King stopped on Monday. We talked and had coffee, he talked to Heather on the phone, then had to go to the farm to feed the horses,
chickens and cats. Blaine's dong pretty good.
everyone have a wonderful week! |
