More than 200 eighth-grade students from around West Virginia received the prestigious Golden Horseshoe award for outstanding knowledge of West Virginia history and culture.
The ceremony was held Friday at the Culture Center.
State schools Superintendent Steve Paine inducted the students from all 55 counties as Knights and Ladies of the Golden Horseshoe Society.
The Golden Horseshoe test has been administered in West Virginia each year since 1931.
The top-scoring students in each county receive the award. Each county has at least two winners. This year's regional Golden Horseshoe Award recipients:
Braxton County: Dustin Elliott Bragg, Jennifer Renae Friend, Landon D. Pettit
Calhoun County: Mason Isaiah Sheldon, Nicholas L. Smith
Clay County: Hope Maria Childers, Andrea Paige Litton, Skyler Cheyenne Withrow
Gilmer County: Andrew Coombs, Hayden Paul Jones
Ritchie County: Andrew Eric Ashcraft, Anna Michelle Cokeley, Jonathan Michael Harper
Roane County: Melissa Ellen Ashman, Dewayne Patrick Barker, Kennedy Wayne Roberts
Wirt County: Elizabeth Ann Adams, Dylan Ray Frazier
