Glenville, WV - Glenville State College officials have announced space is limited in the school's next new incoming class. Vice President of Enrollment Management Duane Chapman says only 425 new first-time, full-time freshmen are being accepted for the fall 2010 semester.
"We have experienced tremendous enrollment growth in the past four years. Limiting the number of new fall semester students will allow us to continue growing at the proper pace while maintaining our small, family campus environment. This will help our faculty and staff continue providing more individualized attention for our students. This is key to our students' success in college, and it contributes to higher student retention rates," said Chapman.
Glenville State College's enrollment has increased steadily over the past few years from 1,381 in 2006 to a fall 2009 enrollment of 1,721 students, which is a 19.2 percent increase from the year before. The school's spring 2010 enrollment is also one of the highest on record in more than ten years.
GSC President Peter Barr said, "We want to continue to grow but not too quickly. Setting a maximum number of new fall semester students will result in planned growth at a steady rate while preserving our reputation of providing one-on-one attention for our students. This is a quality we are proud of and one that attracts prospective students to our campus."
The deadline to apply to become part of GSC's fall 2010 freshmen class is August 1st. The semester's GSC 100 freshmen orientation will be held August 20th-22nd, and classes begin on Monday, August 23rd.
