CALHOUN FLOOD PLAIN PROPERTIES BEING BOUGHT-OUT - Seven Frequently Flooded Houses Will Be Removed

Seven frequently flooded Calhoun properties along the Little Kanawha and the West Fork of the Little Kanawha are being bought and leveled, creating green spaces.

A meeting yesterday regarding the project, included Zack Browning and Tom Saunders from the WV Development Office, Tim Meeks from the Mid-Ohio Valley Regional Council, Calhoun Commission president Bob Weaver, and Danielle Stevens, Administrative Asst. to the Commission.

The HUD Disaster Recovery Initiative will receive $500,000.

Meeks indicated the project closings would likely happen in August, with a contract for demolition let later this year.

The Calhoun Commission applied for the 2008 grants.

All the proprieties have been subjected to repetitive flooding.

A special meeting of the stakeholders is being held April 29.
