Dona A. Drake, 92, of Hurricane, formerly of Spencer, West Virginia, died Tuesday, March 30, 2010, in the St. Mary's Medical Center, Huntington.
She was born November 21, 1917, at Left Hand, Roane County, a daughter of the late Oliver Dewight (Holly) and Eska May Allen Jarvis.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Hobert Eugene Drake in 1991; three sisters, Frankie Eddy, Mary Ellen Calloway and Lucy Helmic.
Mrs. Drake was a retired teacher and reading supervisor. She was also the Title 1 director. Her career included 28 years with the Roane County Board of Education and 16 years with the Wyoming County BOE. She was a member of the Memorial United Methodist Church, Spencer.
Survivors include twin adopted daughters, Donna Jean Drake Gandee of
Spencer and Dinah Jayne Drake of Sandyville; three grandchildren, Danelle Cline McCray of Hurricane, Roy E. Woods, II of Seneca Rocks and Rhea Drake Stickel of Spencer; three sisters, Floretta Nester of Newton, Naomi Ruth Myers of Richmond, Va. And Luberta "Tiny" Neil of Summersville; three brothers, Noble Jarvis of Wadsworth, Ohio, Oliver Jarvis of Sandyville and Larry Joe Jarvis of Cleveland, Ohio.
A funeral service will be conducted Friday, April 2 at 1:00 p.m. in the John H. Taylor Funeral Home, Spencer, with the Rev. Homer Hensley officiating. Burial will be in the Laurel Point Cemetery, Newton.
Friends may call Friday one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
