Authorities have identified the body of a man who died in a house fire in Spencer early Thursday morning.
The fire was reported before 3 a.m.
At about 2:40 a.m. a firemen reported that "flames are coming through the roof and out the windows."
Firemen indicated Louis Fields, 54, went back into the house, one report said to rescue his dog, when he was overcome.
The body has been sent to the WV Medical Examiner's Office.
Spencer-Roane firemen entered the burning house on Circle Avenue with breathing apparatus in an effort to rescue him.
Firemen from Spencer, Reedy and Clover fought the large fire, remaining on scene until 10 a.m. Thursday.
Funeral arrangements will be completed at the John H. Taylor Funeral Home in Spencer.
