COMMISSION FACING 2010-11 BUDGET ISSUES |

The Calhoun Commission will meet Monday at 9 a.m. to commence working on the county's 2010-11 budget. The county is facing some serious problems with balancing the budget, because of new mandates and short-falls in revenue streams. The commission will have several budget meetings in March. The state has backed-off, at least partially, with their demand for about $60,000 from the county to fill a retirement program gap. A number of election items will be reviewed for the off-year election. Hearings regarding tax problems are scheduled for Richard Morris and Harold "Dick" Ullum. Issues related to courthouse access and access improvements. The commission is looking to appoint a person to fill a vacancy on the Calhoun County Deputy Civil Service Board. A review will be made of a number of grant applications being submitted by the county. About two dozen other items, mostly routine are on the agenda. |
