Kristen Golden had her top game of the season, and
she did it all. Leading the team in scoring with
35 points, she was all over the court with
blocks, steals, outside shots, assists, and rebounds.
Golden shot a deadly 68-percent from the floor.
There was no stopping the Lady Pioneers as five teammates hit double-figure scoring.
Kim Stephens and Beth Deren, both solid players were red-hot Monday night scoring 13 and 15 respectfully.
Donita Adams had 25 on the night, while Suzi Harvey
chipped in 11.
Glenville's Suzi Harvey struggles with two Alderson-
Broaddus players over a loose ball. If the game had
been more physical they'd have needed pads.
Miranda Reed slips a sideways pass
between defenders. She and Donita Adams
were responsible for six steals each.
Miranda Reed and Donita Adams had 6 steals apiece; overall, the Lady Pioneers totaled 22-steals on the night.
In first half play Glenville squandered a 10-point lead allowing A-B to muster a surge nearly tying the score near the half.
It was a 2-point game, 47-45 with a minute left in
the half. A steal and and two quick Donita Adams baskets
gave them a little breathing room closing out the
first half 52-45.
The second half was all Glenville State College. In just
over two minutes of play they were up by 11.
The Lady Pioneer defense pressure contributed to 34 A-B
turnovers. Glenville outscored the Battlers in the second half
by a margin of 67-41; 11 of those triples.
And finally, after tallying up a few games with poor
shooting statistics they connected on 50-percent of the
field goal attempt in the second half; 47-percent overall.
From long range they hit 34.7 percent.
Ginny Petties looked like a defensive safety
leaping up to deflect a down-court pass. Here,
she successfully races to secure the loose ball.
Teams prevailing in first round play are: Seton Hill,
Charleston, Shepherd, West Liberty, Fairmont,
Wheeling Jesuit, and Glenville. Season champs
West Virginia Wesleyan got a first round 'buy'
and will join field Wednesday.
The Lady Pioneers (18-9) next hurdle will be
West Liberty for the late game Wednesday beginning
at 8:30 p.m., March 3, at the Charleston Civics Center.
West Liberty handed them a 9-point defeat at their
only meeting this season in January.
