Linda Lou (Meek) Ashby, 59, of Clarksburg, has passed. She was a former teacher in Calhoun County.
February 16, 2010 was a day that two little children lost
their beloved "Nana". Caleb Ashby and Kyah Stump
dearly loved their Nana, Linda Lou Meek Ashby. She
courageously battled her illness of Multiple Sclerosis
and Cancer with dignity and character.
She cherished
her two little grandchildren and was aglow whenever
they were near her.
Linda was born in Clarksburg, West Virginia on February
8, 1951 a daughter of Floyd and Helen Meek. She attended
Clarksburg Washington Irving High School from which
she graduated in 1969.
Upon her graduation from high
school, Linda enrolled at Glenville State College where she
earned an AB degree in education in 1972. Following her
attainment she attended West Virginia University where
she received a Masters Degree in Secondary Education in
1979. She then continued her studies to obtain 45 additional
graduate hours.
While in high school, Linda was a member of the drill team as
well as a participant in many other extra curricular activities
and clubs. At Glenville State College, Linda was a member and
Vice President of Sigma Sigma Sigma Sorority. In addition to this
she was a Varsity Cheerleader for both the GSC football and
basketball teams.
Linda spent over 30 years as a professional educator and
worked in several West Virginia School Systems as well as
schools in the state of Virginia.
Her teaching "hats" were
numerous: She was an FBLA Advisor, Yearbook Advisor,
Cheerleader Advisor and volunteered many evenings to assist
in various school functions.
She was admired by her fellow staff
members for her grit and determination and was viewed as a
"favorite" teacher by many of her current and former students.
She was truly devoted and dedicated to her profession.
Linda was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother (Nana).
She leaves to mourn, her husband of 37 years and best friend,
Paul Edward Ashby Sr. of West Columbia, West Virginia, her
parents, Floyd and Helen Meek of Lake Floyd (Bristol), West
Virginia, her siblings, twin sister, Brenda DeGarmo and her
husband Daniel of Lake Floyd, West Virginia, Floyd Allen Meek
Jr. and his wife Joyce of Wilmore, Kentucky and William Grady
Meek and his wife Kim of Morgantown, West Virginia.
Linda also leaves behind her most precious and loving children,
Paul Edward Ashby Jr. and his wife Shasta of Charlotte, North
Carolina and Nicole Linn Stump and her husband Jason of
Fairmont, West Virginia.
Several nieces and nephews will miss
their "Aunt Linda" who always showed her love to them as well
as two great nephews. The entire family will forever be saddened
by our loss but we live with the belief in our hearts and souls that
God needed our precious mom to serve Him.
Friends may call at the Davis-Weaver Funeral Home, 329 East
Main Street, Clarksburg from 5:00-8:00 p.m on Friday,
February 19, 2010 where a funeral service will be held at
11:00 a.m. with the Rev. Kevin Bender presiding. Interment
will follow in Floral hills memorial Gardens.
Linda's request, in lieu of flowers, an education fund
will be set up for Caleb, Kyah and our new June, 2010 little
boy.
Donations may be sent to their Granddaddy, Paul E.
Ashby Sr. at Rt 1 Box 115, Valley Brook Lane, West Columbia,
West Virginia 25287.
