Roland S. Cole, SFC US Army, Retired, age 77 of Alice Road Cox's Mill West Virginia, departed this life at 7:24 a.m. Sunday, February 14, 2010 at the United Hospital Center, Clarksburg, following a 6 month illness.
Born April 4, 1932 in Gilmer County, a son of the late James Aubrey and Jessie Ellison Cole.
Serving 25 years in the US Army, he traveled all over the world and retired from the military in Huntsville, Alabama. He later retired from the TVA. in Chattanooga, Tennessee. Following the death of his wife, Roland returned to WV and the family farm.
He was united in marriage to Hilda Gragg January 18, 1958, whom preceded him in death November 11, 2006.
Surviving are 1 daughter, Tammy King and husband Richard of Bridgeport WV; 1 son, Roland G. Cole of Huntsville, AL;
7 grandchildren, Celeste, Benjamin, Spencer, and Shelby King all of WV, Roland G. Cole Jr. of AL., Gregory and Teena Cole of KY;
3 brothers, Truman Cole of FL., Jerry Cole of KY, and Roger Cole of WV; numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives also survive.
In addition to his wife and parents Roland was preceded in death by 2 sisters, Betty Jean Gragg and Bonnie Lee Johnson; 4 brothers, Vane, Lane, Billy Joe and Leo Cole.
Funeral Services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Friday February 19, at the Ellyson Mortuary Inc. Glenville with Bishop David Frame officiating. Burial will follow in the Hiney Cemetery with full military honors.
Friends may call at the mortuary from 6-8 p.m. Thursday, February 18.
