The Wirt White Tigers traveled to Mt. Zion last night to take on the Red Devils.
In the seventh grade game Calhoun came out flat and couldn't find any rhythm as the Tigers played inspired ball and lead 9 to 3 at the half.
Calhoun came out in the second half, with Lucas Wilson and Kirkland Allen applying pressure on the ball. This forced Wirt into several turnovers, which allowed Calhoun to outscore the Tigers 9 to 1 to take their first lead of the game 12 to 10 at the end of the third period.
The Red Devils continued with the defensive pressure in the fourth and went on to outscore the Tigers 14 to 2 to win the game 26 to 12.
Scoring for Calhoun were, Lucas Wilson 4 points, Kirkland Allen 4 points, Tyler Tanner 3 points, Tyler Sims 5 points and Tyler Gerwig 10 points. Playing but not scoring were Luke Sheldon, William Baker, Sam Brady, Devon McKown, Eythan Miller, Riley Cain, Cole Boatright.
In the eighth grade game the Red Devils came out and played their best game to get their first win of the season.
The Red Devils started slow, with Wirt jumping out to a four point lead, before Calhoun finally got untracked. Ryan Slider hit two lay-ups and Logan Moore a three pointer as the Red Devils ran off 11 points to take a lead at the end of the first period that they would never relinquish.
In the second period the Devils, were lead with Mason Sheldon's 6 points as Calhoun outscored 14 to 4 to run their lead to 25 to 12 at the half.
In the third period, Wirt's Kalob Bell caught fire, scoring 9 of his 13 points in the quarter to help the Tigers outscore the Devils 11 to 9, and cut the lead to 34 to 23 going into the final period.
In the fourth period Tyler Gerwig came off the bench to score 8 of his teams 13 points to seal the win for the Red Devils.
Scoring for Calhoun were, Mason Sheldon 13 points, Logan Moore 10 points, Kameron Carder 2 points, Ryan Slider 12 points, Sam Brady 2 points, and Tyler Gerwig 8 points. Playing but not scoring was Tyler Tanner.
Coaches Sims and Baker would like to congratulate the players on a great win, and to thank the fans for coming out and supporting the team.
