Items during this week's meeting of the Calhoun Commission:
- The commission met with state auditors reviewing their findings of the annual county audit, finding few problems with county management. The auditors made some recommendations regarding procedures.
- The commission will support a grant application for outside basketball and tennis courts at Calhoun Middle-High School, which would be open to the public.
- Jacob McCumbers was appointed to the Deputy Sheriff's Civil Service Board. The commission is seeking a community volunteer for a second opening, who must be a registered Republican.
- County Clerk Richard Kirby reviewed a number of election items with the commissioners for the May 11th primary.
- The commission approved an absentee voters policy.
- A lengthy list of appointments to county and regional boards was reviewed, many of which county commissioners serve.
- County Clerk Richard Kirby told commissioners he has concern about continued funding for the OES director's salary, which has yet to receive partial reimbursement from a state program, and continued funding for a Flood Plain Coordinator. Both positions receive minimal stipend salaries.
- The commission will be applying for a new courthouse security grant to upgrade the entrances to the courthouse.
