Reading Bob Weaver's article about the old Kanawha Theater in Grantsville was wonderful. what a nice time and a great thing for surrounding people back then. Even the Drive-In movie at Mt. Zion is probably one of the last. I am glad it's still here in the county. I loved the photos. He wrote about the old 78's and the new 45 records, with the big hole. I have stacks of them. My uncle Lyle Gaston and his wife, my aunt Pat had the Gaston TV and Appliance store on Main Street in Spencer. I suppose that's where they came from.

Was talking to a friend and she says old timers used to put cooking oil in their tomatoes when canning. Why?

I had a lovely time this past week with Heather, Ben, and the girls. I was in Summersville for almost a week. The snow over there seems to never melt. We had a great time and I set with the girls while Heather was in school and Ben was at work. What a day. I thought they would take a nap, but no. When Heather got home I told her that I surely understood what she was going through.

Glen Siers called me to see how I was doing. His relatives Terry and Jerry from Fisherville Virginia visited with him for almost a week and all had a good time.

I had a major problem with my computer. John from the Chloe Hardware was here for a haircut and told me about William Dobbins from around on White Oak. He really knows his stuff and I am up and running now. What a nice guy. computer_freakz_bill@yahoo.com

I road with Buddy Watkins and Charles Haverty to Buddy's sister Mary Ann's to pick up Buddy's medicine and on to Duck to the store up there. We got the best bacon I've ever eaten.

I have a copy of "The Pendleton Times" June 4, 1959 that John, down here at Chloe Hardware, gave me and it's interesting to read an article about Sen. Jennings Randolph calling for a strong America. He speaks out in opposition to those in Washington who appear to be more concerned with a balanced budget than with strong defenses, Sen. Randolph said, "The United States must maintain sufficient strength -- now to deter the hunger for conquest among the Soviet and Chinese leaders. This cannot be done if we are to be preoccupied solely with a balanced budget." Where are we now?

Also in the newspaper ads one could buy a complete 7 piece living room set. Here's what you get: oversize sofa, matching chair, two step-end tables, two table lamps, and a cocktail table for the price of $179 only $25 down. Wouldn't we like to live back in the 50's again? I would.

Everyone have a wonderful week!
