Denver Roberts reported his 1993 Chevy S-10 truck stolen from his well-lit
driveway at the top of Town Hill, about one mile north of Grantsville on
Route 16. He called the Calhoun County Sheriff's Department.
Deputy Sheriff Carl Ballengee said during a 4:30 a.m. license check
Thursday, there was confirmation the truck was south of Beckley. The driver
got away before it was discovered stolen, he said.
At 3 p.m. Friday the Raleigh County Sheriff's department advised Deputy
Ballengee the truck had been recovered, undamaged. Roberts will be going
to Raleigh County Saturday to retrieve the truck. "I don't know if the tools
are still there," he said.
Roberts said the truck was taken between 5:30 p.m. Wednesday (March 13)
and Thursday morning at 9:15 a.m. He had about $500 in tools in the truck
bed.
"I usually lock the truck, but put the keys in the ash tray that evening," he
said. White Pine resident Kaye Yoak told The Hur Herald her truck was
vandalized and objects stolen the same night.
In a story Friday on The Herald, Yoak suggested local residents might start
locking their vehicles. |
