PARKERSBURG - Parkersburg Catholic is the No. 2 team among West Virginia Class A schools. Friday night Calhoun found out why.
The Crusaders, 10-2, jumped on Calhoun, 3-8, from the opening buzzer and went on to take an 84-64 victory over the Red Devils.
Cole Cwynar led the Crusaders with 24 while John Padden added 17 and Jason Williams 14.
Zach Moore came off the bench to lead Calhoun with 19 despite not playing in the first quarter and a half. Kyle Keesler added 14 and Justin Gerwig 11 while Bronson Clark scored nine and Chucky Kendall eight. Tyler Bennett with three was the only other Red Devil to score although Anthony Richards, Daniel Sims, Cai Clothier and Randy Fluharty played some valuable moments despite not scoring.
Calhoun lost the junior varsity game by a 78-49 score dropping to 0-7 on the season while keeping the six-season winless streak going.
Brandon Sampson led the Red Devils with 15 while Caleb Schoolcraft and Sims added eight each. Quentin "Q Dawg" Murphy had six while Bennett and Ricky Hall had four each and Luke Moore and Trenton Phillips two each. Stuart Fitzwater, Caleb Richards and Derek Dawson all played but did not score.
Calhoun will attempt to get back on the winning track Monday night at Wirt County in a makeup game.
