Joseph Payne, 77, of Walton, West Virginia, died Thursday, January 21, 2010 at his home.
He was born August 23, 1932, at Advent, Jackson County, a son of the late Hurley and Nancy Gae Davis Payne.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Rosalie Parsons Payne in 2000 (shown together in picture); a brother, George Payne; sisters, Orpha Parsons, Betty Randolph and Katie Shaffer.
Joe was a retired carpenter and bridge builder for Orders Construction, St. Albans and a member of the United Steelworkers, Local 14614, South Charleston.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Burton W. and Kim Payne of Walton; a daughter, Sheila Crihfield of Clendenin; two sisters, Patsy Hersman of Gandeeville and Marie Cobb of Ravenswood; four grandchildren: Tracy Crihfield and wife, Tressa; Ansel Payne and Mairin; Christina Ray and husband, Matt; and Tyler Crihfield; two great grandchildren, Tyler and Tabitha Miller.
A funeral service will be held Monday, January 25 at 11:00 a.m. in the John H. Taylor Funeral Home, Spencer, with the Rev. Ernest Cox officiating. Burial will be in the Payne Cemetery, Cicerone.
Friends may call Sunday from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
