Donald Ray "Duck" Stevens, 77, of Grantsville, West Virginia, passed away Friday, January 15, 2010 at the VA Medical Center in Clarksburg, WV.
Duck was born April 16, 1932 in Grantsville, the son of the late Francis K. and Lula Starcher Stevens. He served in the US Army in the Korean War and retired from the Eureka Pipeline Company in 1993 after 34 years service.
He is survived by his wife, Gloria Basnett Stevens; they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on September 6, 2009. Duck and Gloria have 4 children, Lydia (Dale) Freeman of Flemington WV, Natasha (Greg) Tichnell of Newark WV, Mark (Danielle) Stevens of Grantsville, and Leigh (Rick) Kinder of Glenville WV; they have 4 grandchildren, Britteny and Nick Stevens of Grantsville, and Noah and Cam Kinder of Glenville; four step granddaughters, Cassie Lemont of Grantsville, Tracy (Jared) Galloway of Fort Walton Florida, Kelly (Denton) Bell of Newark, and Katie Jo Tichnell of Elizabeth WV; also 2 step great grandchildren, Kaylen and Eyan Galloway. Also surviving are a brother, James of Ravenna Ohio; and 3 sisters, Retta Johnson, and Geneva Wilson of Grantsville and Rachel Smith of St. Mary's WV.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by brothers, Festus, Sheldon, Cleo, and Samuel Stevens.
Duck was a member and an ordained deacon of Brooksville Baptist Church of Big Bend, a member of the Grantsville Volunteer Fire Department, a member of Eureka Lodge #40 A.F.&A.M. of Grantsville, Scottish Rite Bodies and Nemesis Shrine Temple of Parkersburg, Builders for Christ, the Calhoun County Historical Society, and Thomas Hollow Hunting Camp.
Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Tuesday, January 19 at the Brooksville Baptist Church at Big Bend. Rev. C.W. McDonald will officiate. Interment will be in the Betts Cemetery.
Friends may call at the church from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday.
