Calhoun's E-911 Advisory Board meets at the Mt. Zion Center
Calhoun County's E-911 Advisory Board elected a new chairperson at a meeting Tuesday evening. Grantsville Police Chief Charles Stephens (left) will serve in the capacity.
Ron Blankenship was elected vice-chairperson and Barb Lay was elected secretary.
The advisory board volunteers have taken an active role in assisting with improvements to the county's 911 communication system, and moving the county's addressing and mapping project along.
Addressing and mapping coordinator Gary Buchanan said the Chloe area will be the last section of the county to be approved by the state, and last minute glitches are being corrected.
The board heard a report from Calhoun County Clerk Richard Kirby regarding budget and financial issues.
911/OES Director Kathy Wood gave a report regarding the blizzard, indicating with one brief outage of a radio tower, the communication system stayed in operation, sometimes using generated power.
A number of issues regarding procedural matters were discussed, in addition to reports about a soon to be operational mobile communication trailer.
The county's radio system will be upgraded, following a propagation study, with the installation of a new high tower in northern Calhoun.
That improvement will eliminate a number of areas in the county that has poor communications.
The advisory board includes members from the county's fire departments, emergency medical services and other agencies.
