COMMISSION CONTINUES EFFORTS FOR HANDICAP ACCESS TO COURTHOUSE - Dates Set For Board Of Equalization

The Calhoun Commission, during Monday's meeting, made another attempt to obtain handicap access to the courthouse, applying for a new grant to use already obtained matching funds for the installation of a chairlift.

Danielle Stevens, the commission's Executive Secretary, said she is hopeful the latest attempt will be granted.

Bob Weaver was unanimously re-elected as commission president for 2010.

Commissioners reviewed the budget, which is half-way through the fiscal year.

The commission is seeking to appoint two new members to the county Deputy Civil Service board, and is continuing to advertise for applicants.

OES/911 Director, Kathy Wood reported on efforts to obtain electric generators to be used for individuals who are on support devices during outages, in addition to an effort to obtain a generator to run the Grantsville water plant during outages.

The commission reviewed items related to the 2010 election, noting the appointment of Melissa Hixon (Democrat) and Linda McCartney (Republican) as ballot commissioners.

County Clerk Richard Kirby said February 10 is the deadline to adopt an emergency absentee voting policy, also saying poll workers must be decided upon by February 16.
