Donald R. Coplin, 79, of Palestine, West Virginia, passed away Sunday, January 10, 2010 at Jackson General Hospital after an extended illness.
He was born September 12, 1930 in Wirt County the son of the late Rolla and Gertrude Bibbee Coplin.
He was a 1949 graduate of Wirt County High School, and served in the United States Army During the Korean War. He retired from DuPont after several years service. He was a former member of the Jr. Lodge, United American Mechanics of Palestine, WV, and
was a member of the Wirt County EMS since 1975. He enjoyed wood working, farming and hunting, and was a Christian by faith.
He is survived by his wife, Virginia Coplin; 2 daughters, Jan (Paul) Roush of Millwood, WV and Rhonda (Frank) Tucker of Spencer, WV;
2 stepsons, Douglas (Jo) Merical and Willard (Connie) Merical all of Millwood; 3 grandchildren, Heather Roush of Monroe NC, Melissa (Justin) Facemyer of Cottageville WV, and Amber Tucker of Spencer;
2 great grandchildren, Lexi Given of Spencer, and Kinsley Facemyer of Cottageville; 7 step grandchildren; and several step great grandchildren; 2 brothers, Lloyd (Barbara) Coplin of North Canton Ohio, and Dearman Coplin of Elizabeth WV; several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his first wife Patsy Sheppard Coplin; and 2 brothers, William and Okay Coplin.
Services will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday, January 13 at Matheny Whited Funeral Home of Elizabeth WV, with Rev. Delmas Stutler and Rev. Robert Watkins officiating. Interment will be at Palestine Cemetery Thorn Addition.
Visitation will Be Tuesday Jan. 12 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. and from 9 a.m. until time of the service on Wed.
