FIVE-YEAR-OLD SHOT - A 22-year-old Huntington mother is in jail after her 5-year-old daughter was accidentally shot in the foot with a loaded AK-47 found under a sofa.

The girl was treated and released. Police said the girl and her 2-year-old sibling found the military style weapon.

The mother, Brittany R. Briers, was being held in the Western Regional Jail on a charge of felony child neglect.

WYOMING WOMAN ARRESTED FOR ROBBERY - A woman wanted in connection with an armed robbery in Wyoming County of Laura's Grocery, has been arrested in Huntington.

Veronica Nicole Messer, 21, of Columbus, Ohio, was arrested in Cabell County for shoplifting at a Wal-Mart in Huntington.

Police said Messer had been on the run since the hold-up.

LANDLORD DISPUTE ENDS IN SHOOTING - A Falling Waters man allegedly shot his landlord's son in the leg during an incident over rent.

The shooter was identified as 25-year-old Chad David Mechanick.

He told police he fired a shot at the man because he feared for his safety and the safety of his two young children.

Mechanick is claiming that 20-year-old Clyde "CJ" Morris III, was attempting to break into the residence when he fired the shot.

Morris claims he had gone to Mechanick's residence in regard to past-due rent, pounding on the door. Mechanick would not let him in.

He said he tried to get in by pushing in a window pane when he was shot in the leg, according to police.

MOTOWN DRIVE-BY SHOOTING - State Police in Monongalia County are investigating what troopers are calling a road rage shooting.

Police said a man allegedly tried to run Albert Daugherty off the road, then got out of his vehicle, and shot Daugherty in the face with a pellet gun.

He then shot out the window of Daugherty's Chevrolet Lumina .

Daugherty told police the man had stolen his four-wheeler Thursday morning.
