MILLER TO BE INDICTED FOR FLANAGAN MURDERS

(12/14/2009)
An indictment is pending against Kirk "Bucky" Miller, 32, accused of murdering Mike and Julie Flanagan, both 52, last Easter on Sycamore Creek.

Miller is incarcerated in Central Regional Jail.

A grand jury is scheduled for January in Grantsville.

The bodies of the Calhoun couple were found in their remote Calhoun residence, shot to death at close range.

State Police said Miller, a well tender, was angry because he was owed money for delivering marijuana.

Cpl. F.L. Hammack of the State Police detachment in Spencer said police found 30 marijuana plants growing in the upstairs of the Flanagan couple's house, indicating Miller's motive was a drug deal gone bad.

State Police say Miller quickly admitted to the crime when they confronted him. Sources close to the investigation, indicated Miller had been on a list of suspects.

Miller's arrest came in July, three months after the murders, following several suspects being interviewed, and one man being extradited from Mississippi.

John Franklin Cash of Burning Springs, formerly of Grantsville, was charged with seven charges of delivering a controlled substance, and was extradited to WV from Laurel, Mississippi.

Hammack claimed Cash made statements that suggested he could have been involved in the murders, according to a criminal complaint.

Later, Calhoun Prosecutor Shelly DeMarino said Cash was "No longer a suspect in the murder investigation."
