On Monday, December 7th, the PTO held a drawing for the TV raffle. Glendon Davisson of Minnora won the TV, and then donated $100 back to the PTO. Caden Wright won a Wal-Mart gift card for being the top ticket seller. The PTO made $1600 from this fundraiser to match their playground grant.

On Thursday, December 10th, storyteller, Ilene Evans, performed for students. The third and fourth graders learned about Harriet Tubman and the Underground Railroad, and pre-school through second graders were treated to songs and stories from Africa. Ms. Evans performs, teaches, and lectures throughout the United States and Europe. She resides in West Virginia and is co-founder of Voices from the Earth, a non-profit arts organization. To learn more about her work, visit her website at www.ilene-evans.com

On Friday, December 11th, the PTO sponsored a movie day. The students traveled to CMHS and watched Santa Buddies. The PTO also provided a healthy snack for them when they returned back to AES. A drawing was held, and Haley Murphy won the prize - the Santa Buddies DVD.

Title 1 hosted a parent workshop on Friday, December 11th. Thirteen parents/grandparents were in attendance. Amanda Harsh from the West Virginia Parent Connections presented information on children's literacy. Each participant received a free literacy toolkit containing two children's books, a DVD, and a resource guide.

AES would like to thank the Red Hat Society for once again donating coats for students in our school.

Upcoming Events

Friday, December 18th: The PTO will be sponsoring Pictures with Santa for AES students.

Tuesday, December 22nd at 1:00 p.m. The students of AES will be performing the musical, A Place in the Christmas Choir. Everything in the Christmas choir is going well…until one happy old hound dog decides to join, and the sound he makes is "nothing short of a howling disaster!" What can the choir do to save their reputation, but not hurt the feelings of the "one-note" canine? Class parties will begin after the program is concluded.
