Pleasant Hill Title I Teacher
Students at Pleasant Hill School were entertained Tuesday, December 7, by an outstanding story-teller, Ilene Evans. Ms. Evans graciously shared her talent while in Calhoun county as a part of Heartwood in the Hills' December Celebration.
Students were spell-bound as she wove her tales, drawn from the history of countries in Africa. She accompanied her stories with instruments and explained the history of each as a part of her presentation. Students also participated in the stories through song, African language, as well as acting out one of the stories.

Ms. Evans told of how a very important leader of a village became greedy and took from the village garden. When it was discovered that he was the one who took the vegetables from the garden he admitted it, apologized, but turned into a spider. The name for the spider in Ghana is formed from the man's name.
Pleasant Hill Staff would like to send a huge thank you to Grantsville Foodland, Calhoun Red Hatters and Fola Coal. Foodland donated plates, napkins, and cups for our Halloween parties and a beautiful Christmas tree for our school. The Red Hatters and Fola Coal donated winter coats to our students. Thank you again for all your support and kindness.
Pleasant Hill would also like to thank parents and students for sending in items for Operation Christmas. We were able to fill 26 boxes and $40 for postage for Operation Christmas Child project.
Pleasant Hill School will be collecting non-perishable food items for the local food pantry. We will start collecting Monday December 14th and end Friday, December 18th. The class that collects the most food items will win a pizza party. (Thanks to PTO.) In order for the teachers to keep track of the count for their classroom, please put your child's items in a bag. Label the bag with the child's name and number of items.
Pleasant Hill School is asking students to encourage grandmas, aunts, cousins and neighbors to collect box tops for education for our school. If community members do not know a student to give their box tops to, we ask you graciously drop them off here at the school to the office. Students and teachers at Pleasant Hill School are very thankful for all the community does to help us! Last year we collected 10,000 box tops for education. The money was used to build a new 30'x60' picnic shelter in the rear of the school on the playground.
