In case you got a little excited about calling toll-free to Gilmer County today,
or if you live in Gilmer, calling Sunny Cal - It's a bust! Strange noises,
scratchy voices and busy signals.
A call to Frontier-Citizens, the local phone company, was answered in some
other state, seemingly unaware of the changes in Sunny Cal and Gilmer
County. We were advised a Public Relations Rep would be in touch about the
service problems.
In an attempt to obtain a Verizon phone book with Gilmer numbers, Verizon
said it would cost $17.30 plus shipping and handling. Another phone book
company, West Virginia Central, wanted $24. Frontier-Citizens advised local
residents they would have to call information at 50 cents a pop until the new
directory is published.
Frontier-Citizens said they are working on the technical problems.
Today, with the long awaited toll-free rollover, the Phone company gets an
"F" and the consumer barely scores.
