H1N1 SWINE FLU VACCINES FOR CALHOUN STUDENTS TUESDAY - New Absence Policies Related To Flu

H1N1 (Swine Flu) vaccines will be administered at Arnoldsburg and Pleasant Hill Elementary Schools, and at Calhoun-Middle High School today.

Joyce Morgan, Calhoun School Nurse and medical personnel from the Mid-Ohio Valley Health Department will administer the vaccines to students who have returned parental consent forms.

SCHEDULE

Arnoldsburg - 8:00-9:30 a.m.

Pleasant Hill - 10:15-11:45 a.m.

Calhoun Middle/High - 1:00-2:30 p.m.

Parents are encouraged to attend during these times.

ATTENDANCE POLICIES AMENDED

Excused Student Absences -Absences that result from school-approved curricular/co-curricular activities; failure of the bus to run/hazardous conditions, SAT Plan, IEP or 504 Plan and other county board approved excused absences.

Calhoun County Schools will accept written parental excuses as board approved excused absences for the 2009-2010 school year to cover absences for flu-like-illness for up to 5 days, and for a 2nd occurrence with the same student of an additional 5 days because of multiple flu virus strains.

Note: A physician's note is not being required because health officials recommend not going to the doctor if symptoms can be treated at home so that the health care system does not become overwhelmed.

Support and require the county attendance director to implement and execute the duties as defined in W. Va. Code §18-8-4: a. The county attendance director and his/her assistants shall diligently promote regular school attendance...

Calhoun County High School's semester examination attendance incentive policy is amended to six (6) excused absences allowed per semester, eight (8) if the student has an (A) in the course prior to the examinations.

In the case of five consecutive or ten total unexcused absences of a child during a school year, the attendance director shall serve a written notice to the parent, guardian, or custodian of such child that the attendance of such child at school...

Home/Hospital Instruction: For those students deemed by their physician to need to receive instruction in non-traditional settings, home/hospital, who have the greatest risk of complications.
