Flames erupt through roof of Adams house
A fire that started in a fireplace appeared to slowly spread through an old, two-story house in Grantsville Thursday night, but crept up a wall, with the dwelling erupting flames.
When Grantsville police chief Charles Stephens arrived, he reported a small amount of fire showing.
That quickly changed.
Grantsville firemen fought the blaze from all sides
The original Burns house at the corner of High and Wigner Street, was occupied by the Charles Adams family.
The family lost everything.
Grantsville firemen responded at 9:09 p.m., and called Arnoldsburg VFD for mutual aid at 10:19 p.m.
A 30-year-old Grantsville firemen was taken to Minnie Hamilton Health System by Calhoun EMS after being struck by a "flashback." He reportedly did not suffer serious injuries.
Route 16 (High Street) was closed to traffic because of the fire.
