The Calhoun Commission reviewed the Budget Control Report at Monday's meeting, in addition to a number of routine business items.
Commissioner Kevin Helmick was absent, suffering from Swine Flu.
Commissioners continued to research a motion that requires county non-profits or other agencies to audit taxpayer money annually they receive through the commission.
- Carrie Kennedy was seeking commission support for a WV-DHHR grant application that would fund a healthy life-style program in the counties covered by the Mid-Ohio Valley Health Department.
- Robin Young, a union member, spoke to the commission regarding a resolution against the sale of Verizon's land-line services to Frontier, indicating the deal would not improve service.
- The commission's Executive Secretary Danielle Stevens reported that the county fire departments Tower Fund had been eliminated, with over $13,000 being refunded to county fire departments and agencies.
- Americore volunteers told the commission they are working in the county to promote Red Cross and other services to the community.
- Rick Sampson was appointed to the Little Kanawha Area Development board, and Jim Sullivan, Donnie Pitts and John Rose re-appointed.
- Approved Robyn Ellison and Walter McCartney as part-time 911 dispatchers.
- Commission set Nov. 19th, 11:30-1:00 for the county's annual Thanksgiving dinner.
