Indian Summer has continued in the Creston area with pleasant days and some frosty mornings. Dandelions and forsythia got confused and thought it was spring and put out some flowers.

Brandon & Alvin Ferrell were among those calling on Mr. & Mrs. Carl Ferrell & Jeremy.

Donald Rhodes & Jeremy Ferrell were attending to business in Elizabeth.

The nation had a grim reminder that the Islamic terrorists still intend to kill us all if they get a chance. An army major who was a Moslem shouted "Allah Akbar" and then killed 13 on an army base. Because of political correctness guns must be locked up on bases so military people have no protection from would be killers and the killer was known to be backing America's enemies but no one would act "for fear of being called racist, bigoted, narrow minded, etc." This fellow was connected to the gentlemen who did the 9-11 slaughter. How many Americans will have to be killed before action to protect the nation is taken?

David Martosko gave a talk to the W. Va. Farm Bureau annual meeting about those who intend to stop all animal agriculture and hunting in America within 20 years. While PETA grabs the headlines, the Humane Society of the United States is the one with the big checkbook and the plan to shut down all animal agriculture. They are the ones who put pictures of injured and abused cats & dogs on Tee Vee and ask for donations but less than 4% of the funds ever see animal shelters, etc. They fund political campaigns, etc. and now they have friends in the highest of places, so to speak.

William Gillespie, a retired professor, forester, etc. gave an excellent presentation debunking "global warming". Even the New York Slimes took note of just how rich the High Priest of the Global Warming Religion has become pushing his scheme. Even some liberals wonder why he refuses to discuss scientific data and explain what would appear to be fallacious statements in his movies and such. The president of the Czech Republic, who grew up oppressed by the Russian communists has noted on many occasions that the real purpose of the scam is to control the lives of everyone on the planet. While China builds a new coal fired power plant each week (without scrubbers) America is threatened with massive taxes to "save the planet". As a result of this and other nonsense the official unemployment has now gone above 10% with the real number about 20%. Added to that are those who, as Larn Headley was wont to say, "They wouldn't work in a pie factory".

All farmers in West Virginia now should start working on their "nutrient management plans" so that they will not get caught with huge fines under the new CAFO [Concentrated Animal Feeding Operations] rules that came into force in February. While some think this only includes big operations which would be 700 dairy cattle or 1000 beef cattle that is a large CAFO of which there are about 30 in West Virginia, mostly chicken houses. Medium CAFOs would have 300 beef cattle but it was pointed out by Christina Richmond of the W. Va. Dept. of Agriculture and others that any AFO (animal feeding operation) becomes a CAFO if someone complains to the DEP and all complaints must be investigated.

Those who live on the other side of the eastern continental divide now have worse problems as the Big Eared One declared the Chesapeake Bay a "national treasure" with TMDL (total maximum daily load) limits for streams going that way. Highway salt, fertilizer in cities and towns, etc. don't count but farmers will be monitored for 'excess phosphorus and nitrogen'. It was noted that this is perhaps the way that the government can finally eradicate the Amish from Pennsylvania. Of course the Amish are the best of farmers and don't pollute but since when did the facts matter.

Prominent Hickory North Carolina furniture mogul Mark Terry along with a well known Calhoun oil & gas tycoon was calling in Creston recently.

Chesapeake & Equitable continue to permit horizontal wells in the Lower Huron and Marcellus shale. Brine was being hauled from one of Equitable's vertical Marcellus wells along the Little Kanawha in Gilmer County.

The price of local Pennsylvania grade crude was $70.50 over the weekend.

The Wirt County Farm Bureau will meet Tuesday, November 17th at 7 P. M. at the fire station in Elizabeth. A report from the state meeting will be given and plans will be made for the "Cap the Cap" presentation in December. All are asked to join in to sign a cap to be given to Sen. John D. Rockefeller IV and Sen. Robert C. Byrd to express concern over the proposed "Cap & Tax/Trade" legislation. As the big eared one said the regulations will drastically increase electric and all other costs where energy is involved, especially fertilizer.
