244 CALHOUN STUDENTS RECEIVED H1N1 (SWINE) FLU VACCINE - "We Didn't Turn Anyone Away"

(11/04/2009)
The Mid-Ohio Valley Health Department gave 244 H1N1 (Swine Flu) vaccinations to Calhoun school children at a clinic held at Calhoun Middle-High School last Saturday.

"We had plenty of vaccine and didn't turn anyone away," said Renee Swisher of the MOVHD.

The vaccine, either by nasal spray or vaccination, was administered with parental consent.

That would have been about one-fifth of students enrolled in the county's three schools.

The 2008-09 enrollment number for Calhoun is 1,126 students, 650 at Calhoun Middle-High School, 233 at Arnoldsburg Elementary and 243 at Pleasant Hill Elementary.

The Mid-Ohio Valley Health Department says the health clinics at Calhoun's schools will be receiving and administering H1N1 vaccine within the next two weeks.

The health department in Grantsville is having an H1N1 vaccination clinic Friday for high risk groups, pregnant women, children 6 mos. to 4 years and health care workers.

Last week, the MOVHD in Grantsville gave 36 H1N1 vaccines to the high risk groups.

The regular seasonal flu vaccine is currently available at Minnie Hamilton Health System and the MOVHD.
