Calhoun school board members have been updated that H1N1 (Swine) Flu vaccine will be given to Calhoun students during a clinic scheduled at Calhoun Middle-High School this Saturday, October 31st from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Parental permission is required.
Carrie Brainard from the Mid-Ohio Valley Health Department, delivered informational brochures regarding H1N1 and the vaccine, which are being sent to parents, according to superintendent Roger Propst.
Brainard said students will be screened for conditions that could prevent them from receiving the vaccine.
The free vaccine will target part of a high risk population between the ages of 6 months and 24 years.
Brainard said the National Center for Disease Control has not recommended that schools be closed, mostly because of issues related to the incubation period of the disease.
She says there is plenty of vaccine for the school population, indicating most students will be given the inoculation through the nasal mist system.
Propst said he and other school officials would be looking at how the vaccine could be available to pre-school children. |
