Grace Louise Howard Stalnaker, 85, of Timberline Dr., Marietta, Ohio died Monday, Oct. 19, 2009, at her residence.
She was born March 22, 1924, in Grantsville, W.Va., to Carl and Callie Collins Howard.
She graduated with honors from Glenville State College in 1967, with a teaching degree and taught in the Orange County, Fla., school system for 21 years. Grace was a member of the First Baptist Church in Marietta and was involved with Sunday School and the Mission Circle. She was a member of the Glenville Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star and the Alpha Delta Kappa educational sorority.
Grace was one of the first golden horseshoe winners in the state of West Virginia. Grace loved to entertain, enjoying singing and playing the piano. She also enjoyed scrapbooking, reading and cooking.
She is survived by a daughter, Becky Archer (Jim) of Marietta; three granddaughters, Melissa Slay (Tom) of Clearwater Beach, Fla., Jaime Cunningham (Ben) of Marietta and Jennifer Uhl (Colby) of Clearwater Beach; three grandpets, Lucky, Pudge and Buckeye; a sister, Eloise Bower of Eustis, Fla.; two brothers, George Howard of Altoona, Fla., and Carl Thomas Howard (Aleatha) of Summerville, S.C.; brother-in-law, Frank Martino of Columbus; and many nieces and nephews, including special niece, Linda Staley.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband, Guy Stalnaker Jr.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 23, 2009, at the First Baptist Church, with the Rev. David Bilyeu officiating. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Thursday at the Marietta Chapel of Cawley & Peoples Funeral Home and one hour prior to services Friday at the church. Burial will be at 2:30 p.m. Friday in Bridgeport Cemetery, 400 Benedum Drive, Bridgeport, WV 26330.
In addition to her church service, there will be a memorial service held at Glenwood Retirement Community, to be announced at a later date.
