ATV BILL MAY NOT BE DEAD - A Few Regulations May Emerge

(02/22/2002)

After a sweeping ATV safety bill with numerous regulations was introduced in the legislature, there is still life in a measure which would require ATV operators under 18 to wear a helmet. It would further prohibit the driving of the vehicles on roads with a painted center line. Other conditions of operation appear to have been dropped.

The ATV bill has been declared dead by some watchers of the legislature, after several years of efforts to adopt safety measures and control where they can be driven. Police agencies have been in a bind to control ATV's around the state because the law allows for little enforcement.
