Velda Arnette Casto Taylor, 82, of Spencer, WV, died Tuesday, October 6, 2009, in the Golden Times Care Home, Reedy, after an extended illness.
She was born Friday, September 30, 1927, at Spencer, a daughter of the late Coy and Golda Wyatt Casto. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Randall Taylor in 2002; one sister, Ella Lee Burdette; and an infant brother.
After their marriage Velda and Randall moved to Akron, Ohio, where they lived for 41 years, before returning to Spencer in 1981. They spent their winters in Florida until 2001.
While living in Akron, Velda worked at Cardinal Plastics, Merryweather Company, Berney Cleaners, and she was also an Avon sales representative. She was a member of the Women of the Moose, Lodge No. 61, Barberton, Ohio, for 61 years and the Daughters of America, Akron, Ohio. She and her husband returned each year to the Black Walnut Festival where she was known as a great collector of antique dishes and dolls.
She belonged to the American Legion Auxiliary, Rebekah Lodge and Reedy Senior Citizens. Also, Velda was a member of the Spencer High School Class of 1946.
Survivors include two sisters, Betty Matics and Opal Shreve both of Spencer; several nieces and nephews. She was very proud of her special caregivers, Vernon and Jackie Russell of Spencer.
A funeral service will be held Friday, October 9 at 3:00 p.m. in the John H. Taylor Funeral Home, Spencer, with Bro. Bill Walton officiating. Burial will be in the Walker Chapel Cemetery, Spencer.
Friends may call Thursday from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
