Ronald J. Harris, 86, of Clinton, Ohio, passed away Sept. 14, 2009 in Massillon, Ohio.
He was born January 18, 1923 in Spencer, a son of the late Homer and Mamie Smith Harris. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Corlis, Milford and Don Harris.
He retired from the Akron Fire Dept., Station No. 4, in 1979 after 28 years service, and was manager of Kenmore Italian Civic Club for 50 years. Mr. Harris was a 1942 graduate of Spencer High School and an Army veteran of World War II. He was a member of Akron Retired Firefighters, V.F.W. Post #44 in Canton, Battle of Bulge Veterans Association, and Greensburg U.M. Church.
Survivors include his loving wife of 62 years, Marie; daughter, Denise Brown of Sharon Center, Ohio and daughter and son-in-law, Ronna and David Pappas of Woodhaven, Michigan; five grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; sister, Ada Hall of Spencer.
A funeral service was held Thursday, September 17 in the Schlup-Pucak Funeral Home, Akron, Ohio with the Rev. Mitch Hennessey officiating. Burial, with military graveside rites was in the Greenlawn Memorial Park, Akron.
