Bronson Clark played for Ritchie County last year before transferring to Calhoun. Friday night he caught a touchdown pass.
Derek Hardbarger was a standout for the Rebels last year. He was a standout against them Friday, earning WVRC-FM Player of the Game honors for his work on defense.
Those two ex-Rebels, along with their new Red Devil teammates, were just too much as Calhoun methodically bested Ritchie 35-8.
The Red Devils did not put things away early but they never really let Ritchie become much of a threat as they controlled things all the way.
Calhoun took a 6-0 lead with :19.7 remaining in the first quarter when Randy Fluharty scored on a two-yard run. It was the first of three touchdowns for Fluharty to go along with 244 yards rushing on 38 carries. Thus far on the season the Red Devil senior has scored eight touchdowns while rushing for 511 yards.
Fluharty's second touchdown with :31.7 remaining in the first half coupled with a Zach Moore to Darrenger Fluharty extra point pass made it 14-0 at halftime.
Calhoun took the opening kickoff of the second half and continued its matter-of-fact handling of the Rebels, taking a 20-0 lead on Moore's 21 yard scoring pass to Clark.
After Ritchie scored on a two-yard run by Bryan Tingler to stall Calhoun's momentum for a bit the Red Devils turned to Fluharty again and his third score coupled with Moore's extra point pass to Dillon Mefford made it 28-8.
Calhoun capped the scoring later in the fourth period when Moore hit Aaron Yoak from 27 yards out to make it 35-8 setting the final margin.
While Calhoun did not have the same eye-popping totals as in the season-opening win over Gilmer when it had 580 yards total offense, the 442 yards it had Friday was still very good.
Calhoun, 2-0, returns to action Friday night when it travels to Doddridge, 0-2, while Ritchie, 0-2, travels to 0-2 Clay.
