After a long illness Clifford W. Schmitz, Jr., passed away at home, Monday, August 17, 2009. He was born in Brooklyn, New York, December 5, 1923.
He served three years in the US Army during WWII, from Feb. 1943 to Feb. 1946. He was a graduate of the University of Maryland, class of 1949 with a B.S. in Electrical Engineering. He worked 35 years with Potomac Electric Power Company, Washington DC, with 13 years as manager of engineering. He was a member and ruling elder of Saint Mark Presbyterian Church in Rockville, Maryland.
He is survived by his wife, Rev. Margaret R. Schmitz; son and daughter-in-law, John A. Schmitz and Nancy Jacobs; and grandson, Evan Jacobs Schmitz.
He was preceded in death by by his first wife, Bernice Johnson Schmitz in 1944.
A memorial service will be held, 11 a.m. Saturday, August 29 at Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church, Grantsville, WV, followed by lunch at his home. Pastors Richard C. Metheney and Jerry N. Malona will conduct the service.
At a later date, to be announced, his cremains will be interred in the Saint Mark Memorial Garden Walk, Saint Mark Presbyterian Church, Old Georgetown Road, Rockville, Maryland.
