BUDGET DIGEST MONEY SLASHED - $200 Million Goes To Teacher's Salaries

(02/09/2002)
Rural, low-tax based counties like Calhoun and Wirt have become dependent on Budget Digest money for projects, operations and improvements, as opposed to more optional items that are often funded.

Delegate Bill Stemple and Senator Donna Boley will not likely be able to produce the funds they did last year. Boley will no longer serve Calhoun County after this year, but she will be serving about three-fourth's of Roane.

Digest money is being slashed $200 million this year, in order to give teachers a pay raise.

The House and Senate have apparently "re-allocated" the funds so Governor Wise can give the raises.
