Calhoun's summer work program for youth has a record number of 62 workers, ages 14-24, among the largest number in the Mid-Ohio Valley counties.
The program, initiated by the Calhoun Commission, Calhoun Schools and Minnie Hamilton Health System, is providing services to a number of projects this summer.
Workforce WV in Parkersburg announced last week the program will be extended into a seventh week, providing additional income for the workers.
Participants receive an hourly work rate of $7.25 per hour for a minimum of 30 hours a week for six weeks at designated work sites.
The program also hires supervisors for each work crew.
Applicants had to meet certain income levels as well as meet program eligibility requirements.
The Summer Youth Program is funded through the American Recovery Act of 2009.
